Andre Schurrle and Mesut Ozil scored in extra-time to crush Algeria's World Cup dream and book a quarter-final against France.
Algeria, playing in their first last 16 game, started brightly and could have been three-up in 20 minutes but for wasteful finishing and the alertness of goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
Germany boss Joachim Low sent on Andre Schurrle for Gotze in the second half and he put Germany ahead in extra time. Mesut Ozil added a second before Algeria grabbed a late consolation
